I just wrote a new blog post on my librarian's blog that I'm happy about as I've had the idea since Sunday. It's over here at Go where you want to be on Wordpress.

I still have a fic that I really need to poke at but I'm quite happy with how this turned out as well as my Peggy, Natasha fic, that's Get Your Claws In, which is also about finding where you fit and not letting go. I will definitely be getting to more meme answers tomorrow as I work a five hour shift but just wanted to share this.

I will find the library I fit in and stay there.

I feel slightly productive today, I managed to get done a good bit of reading and post some entries for my librarian blog. Also I'm debating if Ring of Steel is the exercise thing that works for me since I haven't gone since before break and I'm not missing it, I just need to keep looking. I still have other things I need to get done but for now I'm going to answer all the questions I've been collecting since I really love this meme. Its like the icon one, each time you do it, its different.

- Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile".
- I'll respond by asking you five questions to satisfy my curiosity.
- Update your journal with the answers to your questions.
- Include this explanation and offer to ask other people questions.

Its a very quiet Saturday and I have some reading that I should probably do for class, but I'm not in the mood to just yet. So I'll write about some of the things I've read recently.

I just finished one of Charles De Lint's newer books Medicine Road and it reminded me how really there's nothing he writes that I don't love. This one is following his love of the Southwest but seen through the eyes of two twin musician sisters from Newford and also through two cousins Alice Corn Hair and Jim Changing Dog. One of the things that struck me the most about this one was that the portrayal of Coyote made me think of [livejournal.com profile] jothra's Coyote so much and in a good way, a beautiful woman who's strong, sexy and powerful. Okay, this isn't terribly coherent, but basically I love how De Lint mixes and thinks about stories and what would it mean if these things were just below the surface of our normal world. Its why I loved old school World of Darkness Changeling's, all this magic is right there if you just know how to see it and once you've seen it you never forget it.

Also connecting with an old favorite, [livejournal.com profile] the_croupier lent me two Nightwing books, Ties That Bind and A Knight of Bludhaven, I really enjoyed them both. A bit of history might help, when I was younger and Batman: The Animated Series was on, Dick Grayson was my favorite. I even thought up some fanfiction about him and the circus and I blame him for my small circus obsession at the time. So I've been curious to actually read some of the comics with him in them mainly thanks to [livejournal.com profile] weaverandom, [livejournal.com profile] rushin_doll and [livejournal.com profile] innerbrat and their love and knowledge of the world of DC and particularly the Bat family. I think of these two series that I liked the story of Ties That Bind better since I love seeing back story and watching Dick really find his own identity. Knight of Bludhaven had an art style that I preferred since it was more dynamic though they both were suffering some poor 90s fashion choices.

Coming back to add that I just rewatched the first three episodes of Primeval and its such a good and fun show. Connor and Abby are already my favorites especially Connor. I have such a soft spot for characters who just try so hard and want to be helpful, but are still working on finding their niche. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] vivien529 for getting me to to put this on my netflix queue. Its just such a fun show with action, but great characters.

I keep meaning to do either that year in review meme or something else for the New Year, but I just haven't had the energy. Yesterday afternoon my family had a lovely New Year's Day open house which was a lot of fun and the Old Kingdom stuff is set up and at least moving forward. I was going to go see Sherlock Holmes today, but my walk into Lewes was rather bracing and I'm not really up for the highway today. I think I'll try and catch the 1:30 show tomorrow and have a nice lunch beforehand.

The really big thing for me this past year is going from realizing that yes, I want to be a librarian to I just finished my first semester of graduate school at the University of Michigan. Its hard to believe just how fast all of that happened but it really is the right choice for me and that feels wonderful. I spent a lot of the open house talking to people about being a librarian and what a school of information is and lecturing one poor man on how the whole things will all become digital and print will die is really a false and dangerous misconception. Same thing with the internet isolating people, the internet and so many things, its really all about what you bring into it that decides what you get out of it.

This brings me to the other thing I did for the first time this year which is Yuletide. I ended up writing for a fandom that I've never written for before because I kept staring at the prompt I was given and then something just clicked for this other one. The story I wrote is They Are Mine and its Sandman for [livejournal.com profile] whisperslip, she wanted something about Bast and her relationship with Morpheus and what her relationship with Daniel might be like. I've recently been rereading Sandman and also an anthology of stories inspired by Sandman and the story just sort of happened on the night before I flew home.

I think next year, I'm going to be slightly more thoughtful about what I volunteer to write, but I found it a really wonderful thing to do. I haven't had as much time to go wandering through the archives as I'd like to, but I love seeing everyone's recs.

For 2010, my big goals are finding an amazing internship that teaches me how to be the best youth librarian I can, go on a date and just take care of myself.
