A nice X-Men quiz from [livejournal.com profile] erinmuse, I find it interesting that I got a three way tie between Colussus, Jean Grey and Iceman, slightly odd combo there. Otherwise life is good, the weather is being slightly nicer again and while I've got lots to do for my research essay tis not that frightening. Sunny and I had a good time watching dvds last night and just talking. I miss having everyone as close by as they were at RMWC, but that was then. Trying to think what else, sadly the US lost their first World Cup match and rather badly, I hope they don't let it get to them too much, since I'd like to be proud of my team during the World Cup.

I now have tickets for Sydney, a lovely guide book and will be taking readings on Pindar with me, sounds odd but I think it will work. Oh and I"ve been reading Icelandic sagas and wishing there was a way I could do some storytelling while I"m here. And I don't mean just roleplaying storytelling, I miss getting up in front of an audience even if its just a few people and telling a story. I'm writing about storytelling for my paper but that's not the same, I love a good audience. Not much going on in other news, mainly I'm posting because I found this quiz and it made me smile and decided that's as good a reason as any to post. ;-)

You scored as Jean Grey. Jean Grey is likely the most powerful X-Man. She loves Cyclops very much but she has a soft spot for Wolverine. She's psychic so she can sense how others are feeling and tries to help them. She also has to control her amazing powers or the malevolent Phoenix entity could take control of her and wreak havok. Powers: Telekinetic, Telepathic

I staged a couple of story telling evenings last year. Most people seemed quite uncomfortable with the whole thing, and unsure of how to tell a story. Some notable exceptions though. I've always been interested in the transmission of stories orally. Myths like Arthur and Robin Hood, for example, have got "primary sources", but I think most people just seem to acquire them osmitically, rather than from one particular place. Especially Arthur, who is less well represented in movies.

I'm inferring from some comments in this journal that you're in Wellington? VUW offers a course specifically on myth and storytelling in the classics department. course code clas 311. Though they're re-jigging the course a bit this year to be more specifically about certain particular stories.

Otherwise, I'll bear your offer in mind. It's been a year or so since the last storytelling evening, I should get around to having another one.
