Its snowing today, which is beautiful but I'm feeling all thrown off for my day. I woke up and took a while getting out of bed but then maintenance people showed up to install a new dishwasher. I'm glad to have it but it started me off in an odd way.
My discussion section was just kind of eh, I think I understand Python but I'm feeling so tired that I'm going to keep poking at the assignment throughout the week. Though in good news, my evening class is being done online and my other meeting was moved to Friday.
Last week I had a lot of papers due and assignments that I've been getting the grades back on and I'm struck again by how even though I find all of this stuff fascinating, I tend to end up a B student. Like my last assignment for School Library Management, it was writing up a defense for a children's librarian, I ended up getting an 80 which is a good but not great grade. I'm pretty sure what I did wrong was not use enough sources, which is something I always forget to do. I'm not sure why but I'm not a great researcher. I'm incredibly good at taking apart primary sources and really going pretty deep into a reading though I'm not doing that as much on my school librarian blog. I should go back and go into more depth on my reading reflection. Today is just feeling like a day where I'm feeling kind of eh and not good enough.
So below I'm going to post the icon meme which I love so much and I'm asking for prompts. Writing fics for people always makes me smile and I think most of you have a pretty good idea of what I write but if not just ask. Also I'll do the lurker meme though I have no idea if anyone even lurks here. Wow, this got long, I guess today my thoughts are just scattered.
Today has been declared lurker amnesty day! Have you read me but never commented? Do you surf by occasionally? Here for the fic book babbing? Say hello! You are under no obligation to ever comment or delurk again, but here's a chance to do so in a post just for that.
Comment here and I will pick six of your icons, you then copy and paste this in your LJ along with your explanations/comments/squeeage about each one.
Under the cut are the six that
newredshoes gave me.

I made this icon when I realized that I didn't have any icons with Greek on them. This is actually an ostraca from the Athens' musuem and I think its the one with Demosthenes' name on it. One of the things I find so fascinating about Athenian democracy is just how direct it really was and the idea of voting with pottery shards to exile someone captures it well. Also the Greek is very clear looking, this is a classic example of how I make icons too, lots of cropping. Small edit, it actually is ostracizing Themistocles not Demosthenes.
I made this icon for Sameth and then kept it for myself because I think its just cute and odd. In canon Sameth makes a mechanical frog with wings and so I went searching around Steampunk sites which Saph and Star helped me find and ended up with this. Again all I did was some cropping but I think its an adorable frog.

I made this icon when I realized that Tiwa needed a baking icon and so found the image and now I just like it. The best part of baking after all is liking all the gooey left over chocolate.

My only Pushing Daisies icon, but I love it since they both look so happy. Chuck really makes the best faces.

The Weasleys are probably my favorite part of Harry Potter since they remind me of my own big and crazy family. I love this icon since it just captures all of them together and how when you need it, family will be there.

Becca made me this icon and I love it. This is the last illustration by N.C. Wyeth in Paul Creswick's Robin Hood, which is the book that got me hooked on Robin Hood. Will is in the corner with his head in his hands and John is holding Robin. To me the three of them are the heart of the Merry Men and this illustration just captures it wonderfully.

Date: 2010-02-09 09:48 pm (UTC)Also, hit me with the icon meme! I love icon memes.
Your selection was great - I enjoyed reading your descriptions. As for Tiwa's baking icon? I thought it was abstract sculpture, not chocolate! So, thanks for clearing that up? :-D
