Orientation and the Volvo Ocean Race
Feb. 16th, 2006 03:20 pmYesterday was busy with wonderful things, I woke up early to be at Victoria University for a 9 am orientation that went well and I got lots of information about many people who want to make sure my time at Vic is the best it can be. Then I walked over to the classics department to talk to Diana Burton, the postgraduate head and talk about the topic of my paper, she found my ideas interesting and has already helped me narrow my focus and even lent me a book to help me with ideas and information. After that, I had lunch and met with some more international students before having my last compulsory meeting about enrollment then I went and stood in a line for about an hour to get a form stamped. Now I just need to get my class information unto that form and signed by the department and I'm done. I decided to not do that yesterday but instead wander down the hill towards the city centre through wooded paths and odd streets and then buy dinner and collapse to watch the olympics.
This morning, I enjoyed sleeping in and talking to my parents. Last I knew, Rowan was on his way to France, where hopefully he'll be having a great time. I then headed out to Wellington, where as I was walking near the Harbour, I saw a crowd and it turns out that Wellington is the end for the third leg of the Volvo Ocean Race around the world and I just walked by as the two lead ships were heading towards the finish line. So I've got lovely pictures of beautiful ships, neck and neck coming into the harbour before sitting down to a nice lunch, where I started reading the book I was lent. I think I found the right place and time to go back to school, this book is already giving me ideas and thoughts about the ancient world and I love it. Life is good, tommorow I'll head back up to the university to finish my paperwork and also get in touch the health center to get my prescriptions figured out, and then at 5:30, there's a party for international students, which should be fun. Life is good though I with Rowan were here to share it with me, but he's off exploring Europe and will be back soon and then he'll start up his classes and we'll go out flat hunting.
