Ruminations on Greek

I'm a classics major and have been now for what feels like quite a while, but something I do know about myself is at this point in time, I won't end up a classics professor.

I can translate Greek, but now I need to retranslate what I did before since I made things harder for myself. Diana is really patient with me and I feel bad and keep apologizing since I know how to do Greek sort of, but its not easy for me and I always feel not good enough when I'm doing it.

I love Greek literature, I adored Greece, but to truly teach it and have the confidence needed, I don't think I have it.

That's why I'm only getting a master's, it will help me get a wonderful job telling stories and spreading my love of words and history without requiring me to try and teach Greek. Okay, this sounds more whiny then I meant it to since I'm more thoughtful then anything else and will now eat my lunch and stop worrying.

Dude, you don't even work with the same alphabet; I have total admiration for anyone who can read any greek at all.

I completely understand stopping with a master's. You're right: there is just this level of inherent confidence that professors have, where everything that comes out of their mouth they not only truly believe and know, but somehow makes you realize how little you yourself know.
