I'm now sitting in Swarthmore enjoying wireless internet and listening to a cd of Shaker songs. I woke up around 11 this morning to Jessica, the girls and Leslie calling me, it took me a moment to realize that it was my phone ringing since it sounds so different from the one in Wellington. Yesterday was long, but good, the cleaning was finished and Sunny came with me to the airport. And as always whenever I have a long trip, the flights are never boring. As I said before, Wellington was farewelling me with wind and rain so the my flight was delayed and when we took off the wind was moving the plane. Quite exciting and a more relaxing feeling than turbulence. Then we were late and I had to run across Auckland airport, switch terminals, take care of the awful departure tax and card and I was the last one on the plane. Though it was almost empty and I had a row to myself and a lovely tv screen with choices of tv and movies. To satisfy my odd Disney cravings, I watched The Lion King, also A Prarie Home Companion, sweet movie but nothing special, an Agatha Christie Mystery, episode of The Simpsons, that new show How I Met Your Mother, that was a nice suprise and American's Next Top Model since sometimes you just want something slightly trashy. I had 12 hours to kill.
Then flying into San Francisco, all these memories of when I was little and every summer, my Mom and I would fly to San Francisco then drive to Carmel came back. I was grinning madly going through the airport though security was a bit funny since I was juggling, laptop bag, purse, hat, jacket and a shoes, but it worked. I bought some See's Candy that my Mom and I used to buy before we came home. The last flight went pretty quickly and then just being with my parents. They're away until Sunday at an anthropology conference in San Jose, but I don't have the same feelings of aloneness and oddness as I did last time I came home. This new house is home too and I walked around town and reconnected with everyone, reserved the last Lemony Snicket book and rented The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, since I never actually saw the new movie. I'm still sore from all that sitting and the cleaning I did, but I'm quite happy. I've already arranged to have dinner with Robert and Jessica on Thursday and still figuring out something for Leslie. Also I've started emails for meetings and greetings with friends on this continent. Life is good and I have a drawer full of Christmas presents so any shopping now is playing at Borders and getting ready for Thanksgiving. I am going to be baking since in the flat in Wellington there wasn't an oven. So before Sunday, I am going to bake some bread. And hopefully when I get back, my violet will still be alive, I left in Phil's care, so I don't know. But I wasn't that good with it and its a hardy little plant. And if it dies than I can get another one at the grocery store so not a huge loss.
