To whoever is writing for me, thank you. I love the idea of this exchange and I'm looking forward to participating in it.

All of these fandoms are ones I've chosen because of the depth of the world building and how these works reflect and show parts of what I find fascinating in the original canon. I'm interested in a feeling of place, setting and characters. Thank you for writing for me and I hope what I write is helpful as I'm not certain of the best way to discuss my wants in this particular exchange.

1-The Chronicles of Chrestomanci: Millie Goes To School (book) - Diana Wynne Jones
Peter Jenkins and the Headmaster's Secret (book) - Diana Wynne Jones
A Pony Of My Own (book) - Diana Wynne Jones

The reason I'm interested in all of these books is because they're variations on a particular type of book, the one about learning how to be part of society and be a good child. They're based on Victorian ideas but with a twist of the worlds they're being read in and how they're thought about. How the Millie books made such an impression on Millie, how the Peter Jenkins' books changed due to the weird mixes of reality. In a more personal way, I'm a youth librarian and have worked as a school librarian at private schools and would love to see what Millie and Peter's schools look like.

2-The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries: Nigel Bathgate - That Mystery Novel He Says He's Going to Write One Day
Nigel Bathgate - Assorted True Crime Reporting

I've always enjoyed Nigel and Alleyn's interactions in the mysteries, their complicated friendship and how Nigel matures. I'd love to read some of Nigel's writing and his take on some of Alleyn's mysteries. One reason I adore the Alleyn mysteries more than others is the focus on people and places, I feel like I could walk into that world and visit.

3-Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell:

A Child's History of the Raven King - Lord Portishead
Revelations of Thirty-Six Other Worlds - Paris Ormskirk
A Faire Woode Withering - Peter Watershippe

This book is a favorite of mine because of how rich the world building is and that makes it hard to pick only three books. 'Child's History of the Raven King' is a book that is pulled and changed within the book itself that I'd love to read what Portishead's voice sounds like. 'Revelations' is the one that helped Strange use the mirror and I'd be interested what is within the book, how is shifting worlds approached. 'A Faire Woode Withering' chronicles the decline of magic in England which is an important part of the story, so I'm curious to learn what happened.

4-Shakespeare in Love:

Romeo and Ethel the Pirate's Daughter (play)

This is one of my favorite movies for how it captured all that I love of Shakespeare's plays and the world of the theater. I'd love to see one of his not as famous works.

5-Poirot-Agatha Christie:
The Cat It Was Who Died (book) by Ariadne Oliver
The Affair of the Second Goldfish (book) by Ariadne Oliver
Reviews of Ariadne Oliver novels ×

Ariadne is in my opinion, one of the best of Christie's many creations, she captures a lot of what it means to be a writer; too many ideas, trying to make everything fit and how you can get trapped by your own characters. It would be wonderful to read about her detective and some of her confusing plot moments or what the reviewers really think of her.

6-Vorkosigan Saga-Lois McMaster Bujold:
Lord Vorthalia the Bold (Holovid)
Captain Vortalon (Holovid)
Miles' field reports

I adore the world that Bujold has created and how Miles talks about these holovids, they clearly made a large impression on him and Nicki. Also his field reports are legendary and it would be fascinating to see one of the books told through that lens.

7-The Raven Cycle:

Richard Gansey's journal (book)

An aspect I find fascinating in these books is how Gansey is a dedicated researcher and I'd love to see how he organizes his thoughts and what has he found. In the books, the results of his research is seen but I'm curious about how does he connect the dots.

8-Harry Potter:

The Quibbler (magazine)
Hairy Snout Human Heart - Anonymous
Muggles Who Notice - Blenheim Stalk (book)

Its really hard to pick only three books of the many fictional ones that exist in the Harry Potter universe but these three are the ones that catch my attention. The Quibbler because its all about looking sideways at what's actually happening to see what might be true or might not be. 'Hairy Snout Human Heart' since I'd love to hear about the experience of another werewolf in the Harry Potter world. 'Muggles Who Notice' since I'm fascinated by where the Wizarding and Muggle worlds intersect and what does a wizard see when a muggle sees and vice versa.
