ceitfiannaI realized that I haven't updated since last Sunday and not a huge amount has happened but a good amount. The week went well, I overslept and missed my Wednesday class, but went to a nice interational gathering with Sunny and got free food and talked to random people there. Also I tried to pay my rent and the new security company my bank hired decided that I wasn't allowed to use my check card for large amounts of money. Things seem to be working okay, but its annoying when the money's there, but the card starts saying speak to issuer when I'm in New Zealand. Friday was a good day too with lots of class then a fun time at games club since I signed up to play in a new World of Darkness game and then Claremont which is always fun. I like that everytime is slightly different depending on who shows up that day.
And Paul lent me a copy of Firefly, I received it Friday night, it is now Sunday and I've watched all of them and I've just started on the commentaries. I must say that I'm quite hooked and I'm going to start investigating good prices so that I can get my own Firefly connection and rewatch Serenity. I've always like Joss Whedon and I've had a number of friends that were slightly obsessed with Buffy or Angel, but Firefly is better than them all. At this point, I'm not sure who my favorites are since the whole crew is just wonderful and complicated and real, along with the gritty, lovely feel of everything. I admit, I do enjoy Star Trek, but Firefly is so many levels better since the world just feels real and mixed up, also I like westerns too, so that makes a part of me happy. Oh, does anyone know if there's a Firefly or Serenity soundtrack cd since the music is just great. Okay, I have now been converted and understand why everyone raved, I knew I'd like it but now I know.
In other news, I finally got something written on my second chapter, sadly its a half a page and needs tons of work, but I just feel empty of ideas for Pindar. Though I was able to create five characters for the world of darkness game. I'm not sure what's going on since I don't feel blocked just a bit empty. Well, I"m not meeting with my supervisor till Friday and I have told her that I've been having trouble. So I'll just keep taking my time, writing what I can and the more I work at it, something will happen. And my parents are arriving in a week and a half or so, which is lovely and nuts. We've got some plans already, some days in Wellington than up to Northland though we're not sure how long we're going to spend there. New Zealanders, what recommendations do you have for the North Island. My parents and I have been to Rotorua before and they've been to the Coromandel and Hawke's Bay, is Taupo worth it or is there somewhere else that I don't know about. I'm going to be a bit busy before they arrive since I want to work on drafts of my second chapter and Ariostophanes paper before they arrive, but I'm very relaxed. So its odd, I don't have that driving fear that I had at the end of the first semester, I know I can do the writing, I just haven't figured out what's pushing me through it. That's all for now, I'm going to watch some more Firefly and read Cryptonomicon.

Date: 2006-07-30 03:09 pm (UTC)Conan's running a game on Friday afternoons, we just created characters this past friday. I think its Conan, I don't know everyone's names perfectly but he was posting on nzrag about running one. Check with Nasia since I don't know his name and feel silly.
Also, Erin, my flatmate Phil has the Firefly soundtrack and copied it for me, so I'm good. Though I will be investigating getting my own copy of the dvds.

Date: 2006-07-31 04:36 am (UTC)I got into it fairly quickly, now I'm getting ready to start reading his Baroque cycle books, once I can find paperback copies or such from the library. I ended up enjoying it more than I expected since the characters were so well drawn that it didn't take long to go full bore into it. Also his style reminds me a bit of a good sci-fi writer: Dan Simmons, who also creates a hugely detailed world and just plops you into it.
