All Twisted Up

I just had one of the worst work shifts I've had in a while. Today started off good as I woke up early to do an extra shift so I can have break and then my afternoon shift wasn't too bad.

The trouble started during my last shift of the day when a conversation started that set my creep meter off but they hadn't done anything yet. Also it was clear English wasn't their first language so I kept trying to help until suddenly I was being asked if I was on Skype and they were saying their library doesn't have interlibrary loan. What makes it so awful was how they were still asking valid questions just mixing it in with trying to find out about me and I kept going Librarian!

I'm still a mess of twisted up nerves from how this person made me feel. Yes, I am a real person who is answering questions but that's where it stops. I'm not there to be hit on or picked up simply because I happen to be a woman. I sent my supervisor the transcript as it's something I can do.

Now as I am in serious need of distraction, have meme that's been posted by austen and agonistes. (Original formatting yoinked from bzzinglikeneon because it is of the pretty.) Though I kind of messed up the coding.

Yeah, it was the kind I hate the most because it was passive-aggressive and on that edge of not out and out saying what they want. Also emoticons should not be creepy.

This one's tricky because I love my apartment so the answer's someplace where I can get a hug.

Ew, that's one of the worst things they can do, and I'm sure they know it -- entangling creepy behavior with what would otherwise be legitimate questions of someone in your position. They take advantage of people's work ethic that way, trusting that they won't tell you to get lost. I'm sorry you had to deal with crap like that. Also interesting how you knew before anything even started that there was a sense of creepiness. It's surreal (and useful) how sometimes one can pick that up without really being able to pin it down....

Do we get to ask you any of those questions? How about #19? That's funny because #19 is my favorite number and asking people their favorite ice cream flavor is a fun question I always default to asking people in games like this!

Well, they started off by checking that I wasn't a robot which wasn't too weird. And sometimes their word choice was odd and it felt like prying to me.

Yes, I just edited to make it clearer that I will answer questions.

That's a hard one as I like a lot of kinds of ice cream but I always come back to either plain chocolate or chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.

I read somewhere that Robert F. Kennedy often asked world leaders this question. If I ever become a famous political leader, I am totally going to ask my counterparts this too. :)

Oh yes, that's delicious. For my birthday this summer, I treated myself to a sundae at Ben and Jerry's on State and had two different kinds of chocolate ice cream.

I just have a very hard time picking only one kind I like. If there's an option for two or three flavors at once, I usually do that.

When I was growing up we had a wonderful tiger cat named Charlie Meatloaf, that was on his vet certificate. He lived to be eighteen and took himself off on his own to die.

The first pet that was mine was a teeny kitten named Mary, she was all black except for a white V on her forehead and her paws and part of her tail. Sadly she didn't live very long.

After her I had my cat Suzi who was a beautiful tabby cat who chose me. Her mother was owned by some students and she had a twin sister and two brothers that were all black. All of the times I visited her before taking her home, she came to say hello to me and once followed me home. I miss her a lot because we owned each other. She lived to be about fourteen or fifteen before being hit by a car before I went to New Zealand.

At the moment the beeping of AIM on my MAC. The TV is currently on mute as I can't decide whether I want to watch something or listen to music.

I think soon I'm going to go with music and go into my music that makes me feel better as I add to an X-Men: First Class fic.

*hugs* That sucks. (I used to work somewhere where our phone number was like two digits off 1-800-GAYSTUD or something along those lines, and I once got a phone call from someone for that hotline, and when he realized he had the wrong number, he still tried to chat me up...)

This is only the second time it's ever happened to me but it's still creepy. This guy kept going out of his way to make sure I was a person and mixed in questions with work stuff. And I do try to be polite and I've had some great friendly interactions so I'm usually comfortable going oh, yes, this is a little info about me. This guy on the other hand it had an uncomfortable edge to it like I don't really care but if I ask these things, you'll think I want to know you. Wow, that's a lot more than I meant to write.

What do I love in a person?
I love someone who looks for the joy in life and doesn't care if finding it makes them look silly. My entire family is this way and it's what I love about them.
Someone who is kind and truly listens.
Someone who will hold me and know when to not ask but just be.
Someone who's willing to try things like getting lost in a new city or making strange stir-frys from whatever's in the pantry.
Someone who creates.
Someone who appreciates words and will join me in talking about books and my writing.
Someone who even though they might not share my interests will let me be and not judge me.
Someone who understands giving and taking.
Someone who sees beauty everywhere in the world.
Someone who laughs a lot.

There's not much they can do as basically all we see of patrons is a randomized number but if it can help someone else, that's good.

What do I find attractive? That's a tricky question since a lot for me depends on personality. Let's see I like guys that are tall and kind of lean versus really built. Yet James McAvoy is one of my favorite actors and he's not much taller than me.

I think red hair is incredibly beautiful. Someone who's eyes are full of light and someone who smiles a lot. More than that I don't really know, it depends much more on their personality.

As I said to dynastessa because it's a chat widget, the reporting doesn't do much except make me feel better. At least it doesn't happen very often.

Who have I seen live? Not as many people as I'd like is the first answer.
Since I've been in Ann Arbor, I've seen the Punch Brothers twice, Enter the Haggis. Then you have to go back a few years and I think before I went to New Zealand. I saw Wicked in New York but not the original cast.

At the Pennsylvania Renn Faire I've seen The Scottish Rogues and the Brobdingnagian Bards as well.

When I was in high school, I saw a number of country artists but I don't remember all of them. My local country station used to have festival that I went to. I want to go to more concerts as live music makes me happy.

I don't have a lot of pet peeves but being passive aggressive and an overuse of ellipses are at the top currently.

The nicest thing wasn't said directly to me but about me. The children's librarian who I mentored with in Delaware told my parents that I'm going to be a great children's librarian. I keep coming back to that and cherishing it.
