In the Mood to Write

Today I finally feel properly rested and I'm going to start doing things. I have the makings of a beautiful Asian inspired cabbage salad and tomorrow I'll go shopping at Office Depot so my apartment can have fewer paper drifts.

I've got a few fics that I'm poking away, one I think is almost done and one I need to revisit and finish. I'm also considering looking over at the porn battle as it keeps popping up on my flist.

Now here's an interesting meme from newredshoes, which might prompt more writing.

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write/rec/read AND give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc) or another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc). I will then explain the gist of the story I would write for that AU.

Also that older meme about my fics and RP things, I don't have the exact text with me, but basically ask me questions about my thoughts and I'll tell you them.

Since I've started working on this meme, I have an idea for a modern AU with Sameth and Kait.

Another edit as I've scrolled through the Porn Battle. There are fandoms I know on there but none of the prompts do much for me. How disappointing. I think tomorrow I'll post another prompt meme as I feel like writing.

Thalia and William in a film noir setting. Doesn't have to be gum shoe though.

I have no idea where this idea came from but Demeter as a Catholic saint.

Will Scarlet in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Jane as a spy during a war in the 20th century.

I like the first one but I think it would end up somewhere between comedy like Bringing up Baby and almost noir. Its set during WWII, Thalia's deeply involved in the war effort possibly as a spy while William's a soldier who gets assigned to take her someplace and the film follows their adventures and mishaps.

Also along the way they end up falling for each other but its complicated as neither of them are good at putting themselves first and they keep almost dying. I probably could write this quite easy. There's something about their chemistry that I find so interesting.

I like all the others and will think on them.

I like this! And the ages are all wrong but I can see Gregory Peck as William and Lauren Bacall as Thalia. = ]

You'd have to make it slightly more grown up for it to work with those actors. I was picturing more Gary Cooper and maybe Katherine Hepburn, she has the fire and bite I associate with Thalia.

Oh you actor choices make much more sense! I always forget the young Katherine Hepburn. Silly me.

They're two of my favorite actors of that era which helps though I think they're also both a touch too old.

I love the idea of it starting when they're both young and its chaotic and oddly romantic at times with lovely clothes. Lots of excuses for them to be in and out of uniform.

Pirate AU with Urq and Moist in 13th century orient?

This wouldn't be too terribly AU for Urquhart which helps. He's still a crusader but instead of getting mixed up with Assassins, on his way home, he's captured by pirates. Before too long he realizes this is enjoyable and soon has his own ship. Moist is the second or third son of a Bavarian family, borrowing from your Urq dream as it works, who left at first for schooling and then found a talent for crime and forgery.

When he's taking a ship to Alexandria, his ship is captured by Urquhart, things start off badly but in time they respect each other and even grow close. Moist provides entry into other ports and parts of society so that soon they're something between pirates and very rich merchantmen.

This sounds like an enormously fun AU, actually -- I can so see them pirating and conning their way around the medieval Mediterranean: - the Arabic world which still stretches to Spain, the Byzantine empire, rising Italian city states, the occasional crusaders. That's an environment ripe for all sorts of adventure.

Now there's an idea.

X-men First Class, set in Rome.

Erik is clearly someone who came to Rome either as a prisoner of war, slave or worked with the soldiers and ended up earning a sort of citizenship. This is why he has a simmering hatred of Romans while still understanding that they are where the power lies. This is set around the time of Caesar on that bleeding time between the Republic and the Empire. Charles is the son of this is tricky, he could be Patrician but I can't see him in the Senate. My image is of him as an Equestrian class, rich with connections and money but not Patrician.

They meet when Charles is doing his military service and become uneasy allies. Their final confrontation happens in the midst of one of the battles around Caesar's death as they both try to fit into this new world.

Robin Hood. Noir.

London, not long after the war has ended. Robin is a returned veteran as are most of his men, his family once were noble but now they're poor and still have a title.

He's working to make ends meet and most of the men of his squadron have stayed with him, some of them grew up in Nottingham but not all of them. They're all working in an automobile factory owned by the Sheriff. Its work that pays but the Sheriff enjoys having Robin and men he trusts under his thumb. Marian and Robin used to be close but the war changed everything and as they're starting to get to know each other, things get bad.

Marian's father is killed and Robin's being set up by the Sheriff and its one of those films where you don't know how bad things are going to get before they get better.

Oh God, Clem and Moist in a Regency AU.

The setting is London at the height of the Season. Moist is the third son of a well to do but poor landed family who is trying to find a wife. Clem is the rich but terribly unlucky daughter of a merchant family. Moist is using every bit of his charm to make up for the fact that he barely has a penny to his name and Clem ends up round wound his finger. Her family would like her not to be and there are planned elopements, crossed engagements and all sorts of trouble.
