Words, lots of Words

Today's been a good day, I went and talked to a youth librarian at the Ann Arbor District Library and it sounds like there's a program that might give me a chance to get the kind of experience I want. Apparently they're full for this year and I haven't found out who to contact but I will.
For now, the wind is howling outside and I'm feeling cozy and aware that I've probably had a bit too much pizza and all this semester. Next semester, I'm going to set aside one night and actually have fun doing dance or try tai chi or something since also it will be a way to meet more people.
Books I don't remember a time in my life when I wasn't aware of reading books. I honestly can't tell you when I started reading since I can't remember it. I love the worlds you can find in books and have always wanted to read more and share that love. I've thought of being an English teacher, a professor and a writer but at the moment I think being a librarian is the best way to share my love of books.
Cooking I love cooking, I'm from a family where all of our big holidays are really feasts. We plan the menu weeks ahead and we have some classics that we always do and then try fun stuff. We cook and eat for days and to me that's happiness, cooking and eating with people that I care about. This semester I've mainly been just cooking for myself and I keep having ideas but its not as much fun to cook just for me.
Art This is an interesting one since I tend to connect the idea of art with visual art. My undergraduate degree is in Classics so I have a strong grounding in art, but I last took an art class in high school which I did enjoy. The kind of art I tend to do day to day is writing and photography though I miss the performing arts a lot and I'm getting ever more confident with graphics too.
Michigan I love Ann Arbor, which is where I'm getting my degree in Library Science. Its this wonderful funky city that goes football mad on gamedays and everyone's wearing blue and gold which I find fun and a bit bizarre. Though it also has these fantastic funky shops and used bookstores that I can get lost in and at the heart of it, this beautiful university. So far I haven't seen too much of the rest of Michigan but Ann Arbor is a university town that could be dropped most places in the world and fit. I'm an East Coast girl at heart too so its fascinating getting to know the Midwest a bit better, the weather's really not that different from where I grew up in Pennsylvania.
Children I love children, I love their excitement with the world and how they help me see it in new ways. When I was an undergrad I thought about becoming a teacher but now I think being a youth librarian is the right path for me. Also I'm an aunt of two amazing little girls and I hope someday to have children of my own. I just kind of need to find the right man.
Birds I love watching birds, they have such a grace and joy about them. Dancing is something that I've always loved doing and birds capture that for me. I think I fell in love with them even more when I lived in New Zealand because that is the land of birds. So many beautiful kinds and I adore playing Tiwa since she's all that I enjoy about birds.
Celtic Let's see, on both sides of my family I'm Scottish and Irish and my name is very Celtic, also I loved the British Isles when I visited them. There are so many beautiful myths, food, liquor and all that I just adore exploring and having any sort of connection to.
Sameth I didn't plan on apping Sameth the month that I moved to Michigan but I finally read the Abhorsen Chronicles and he just snuck into my head. I love him so much since he's just a wonderful boy who's so concerned about disappointing everyone and keeps forgetting to find his own happiness. After the rather bad year that I had in New Zealand working on a master's thesis, I think I connected so much to him and that worry of putting others above myself. Also he's a creator, he knows how to fight but he true happiness comes when he makes things. I really see myself as someone who tries to inspire and support. I grew up on a college campus and I've known a lot of really ambitious people and that's really not who I am. I think Sameth's the same way, his ambition is in terms of creating, he doesn't need to change the world, but he'd like to make some beautiful things to add to it. Okay, this ended up a rather huge miniessay but that's one reason I love this meme.
Spring I love Spring so much, I love seeing the world come to life again. Honestly I just adore seasons but Spring always makes me so hopeful.
