Graphics Envy

This week seems to be change your layouts week and I'm so utterly impressed by the gorgeous ones that are on my flist. So I've starting thinking that maybe its time to consider a revamp for myself and maybe try and make it myself.

I really adore the one that moofoot made for me and there never can be too much James McAvoy in the world, just that meme about journal names and such got me considering. I take a lot of beautiful pictures and actually have some wonderful collections of things that probably could be very striking in my layout.

My question for all of you far more graphic savvy folks is what's your inspiration and ideas for your layouts? Do you start with one image or with a person and go from there or is it something else entirely? Also what are the images that you associate with me since for my journal, I want something that reflects me and to get a good sense of that I'd really appreciate visual ideas and such from other people.

Also I just had my first reference class and I think the subject matter and assignments will be interesting but the lectures are going to be a mix. The prof clearly finds it all quite fascinating but she's not that great a speaker. In about ten minutes, I'm going to head off to my children's media course which I'm really hoping is more interesting than the horrible textbook. I'll update about that when I get home which will probably be closer to 9 unless the class doesn't run a full session. Sadly most of mine seem to be running for the full three hours.

Since I really don't have a good image mani program- all I have is Paint, which isn't so good for layering and whatnot- I just search getty for landscape photos. Nice, long, horizontal ones. They work well with Quite Lickable. And Paint works well enough that I can get a pixel size on them, and to also grab a couple of colors from the image itself to use for the background of the LJ- the side parts, and the text background. Thankfully, Quite Lickable has a few color schemes, so I grab one to start with that generally goes with what I've picked, so I usually don't have to fiddle with link-text colors and whatnot.

*waves hands about* And that's about all. Which is now making me think its time for a new layout on my own LJ.
