Betwixt and Between
May. 8th, 2006 04:00 pmI'm in a state of flux at the moment. I just moved out of Rowan's parents house and Rowan and I have broken up. We're staying friends and I think we'll be okay. Since we're both in transistion, its easier to just be friends and not have a relationship to worry too much about. I moved into a furnished room quite close to the University, so I can interact more with the uni and such. But it feels more like a bed and breakfast than my own space, because the landlord is an interesting man, who is always shopping at flea markets so there's tons of furniture and junk in the room. I feel like I've just put a light veneer on the place. Also, he takes tenants under the table so he doesn't have to deal with income tax, another way I feel like a guest. My plan is to stay there until something opens up in one of the residence halls and then move there.
I gave a presentation in Athenian history that went well and I've got another one for my Aristophanes class next Tuesday and a couple of papers coming up. Though at the moment, that doesn't seem completely real. They're showing the Lord of the Rings movies at the Embassy theatre in Wellington, every Sunday at 2, and with Rowan and a friend of his, Phil, we watched the first one. The sound was amazing and the theatre a neat place. The weather's being nice and Rowan's mother even got me a bag of basic food supplies to get me going. So I feel cared for, just a little out of it, sort of like I'm trying to figure out my direction too.
I'm glad I came to Wellington and want to stay in and around the Classics Department at Victoria, as long as they'll let me since with them I feel inspired and as if I"m heading in the right direction. This just a moment of uncertainity as I change places, but I'll find mine and I haven't lost my best friend in New Zealand, Rowan, so that's okay. I guess I'm just feeling pensive, I just need to focus on studies for the next couple of weeks and then I get a long vacation around June, when I plan on doing some exploring of the North Island.
