I'm standing the Otago University Link(student union/library crossbreed) waiting for Rowan to come back from his flat, where he's rescuing washing from line. I'm on vacation for the first time since March and feeling good and relaxed. I've slept in for three weekdays in a row and starting next Monday, I'll be travelling all the way up to Rotorua in the North Island to meet this amazing Maori woman that I'm connected to. Rowan just tapped me on the shoulder and acting as another reminder of how good life is. Things are feeling possible, which they hadn't when I was working at Arthur Barnett, where I felt invisible but useful. A weird and not healthy combination for someone who's happiest helping people, keeping active and smiling as often as possible.

Okay, Rowan interupted my travel plans and explanations. On Monday I will be off to Rotorua, which is known as the stinky city due to lots of sulphur and geysers and such, but its a great place to see New Zealand and learn about Maori culture. Another side note, if you are interested in learning about New Zealand and its strange and at times seriously unhappy culture, read Witi Ihaemaera, the guy who wrote Whale Rider. I just read a book called The Matriach and it had magic, history and a powerful family in it. So go find and read, you'll be pulled in and not want to let go. Yay, I have more time to read now, admittedly I'm doing it while Rowan's revising and those are few chances. Having a boyfriend who loves talking to you about what you're reading can make actually reading rather hard to come by. I recommend one though since you can share books and learn about the Russian Revolution and Economics and read Pratchett and Tolkien to each other. Back to topic, after Rotorua, I fly all the way down to Dunedin, meet up with Rowan then off to Wellington to meet his family.

I'm not too worried about this since I've talked to them on the phone and I love Wellington and Rowan and I think the conversations are going to be interesting. Rowan's father is a British immigrant, who does IT consultancy work for the New Zealand Fire Service and his mother is hard to describe, Rowan is beside me looking pained at the thought. She's working on a book at the moment, sort of, and a European mix of Dutch, and German. And Rowan's sister Tamsyn just started at Victoria University after a year in Israel. Let good conversation begin, in a city I really enjoy.

Then the other thing I want to mention is that at the moment, the Irish and British Lions are touring New Zealand playing provincial teams, getting their buts whupped by the Maori team for the first time in 75 years, lots of All Blacks are part Maori somewhere in their history. And Dunedin's getting ready to welcome the Lions and their fans, the Barmy Army, who will also be in Wellington when I'm there. So hopefully I can get some pictures of crazy British fans, who came halfway around the world to follow a rugby team. And I think that's a good place for this rambling email to stop. I'm happy, in the process of finding a new bag since anyone who has seen my big, black bag will agree, its time for me to downsize and I'm moving to a satchel type thing, catching up on sleep and enjoying life. Also I realized that I hadn't posted in a while so this is an update too.
