Back from my holiday
Apr. 12th, 2005 06:18 pmToday I started work again at Arthur Barnett and found out that my boss waited until Friday even though I got back on Tuesday so that I could have a little more time off. And I may be able to change my schedule so that I can work Monday to Wednesday and so have my weekends back, which would be wonderful, since getting up early on Saturday and Sunday is just odd. Also I've called and looked at a couple of places to live, I haven't found the right one yet, but its out there. I may decide to pay a little higher rent and actually have a place that's truly my own instead of just a room in someone's house. Okay, that's all the recent stuff, now for the fun stuff.
Erin arrived on Saturday and I finished work and took a taxi out to the airport and met her. I had a bit of a bad moment since I didn't know what her plane's number was and where she was flying in from and then she was there. That first night was very mellow since she was jetlagged and my body just realized that I didn't have to work the next day. So we sat down for a big dinner and didn't eat and went to bed. The next day we slept in, at least for us, so 8 as opposed to 6:30 and then we walked around Dunedin. It was lovely and peaceful since it was Easter Sunday and around lunchtime we met up with Rowan. I had been worrying for the past month or so, how they would get along. No problems at all, we walked, went to a gypsy fair and then played pool late into the night with me steadily relaxing. At the end, Rowan told me to enjoy my holiday and went back to the world of classes while Erin and I became tourists. We rode the Taeri Gorge Railroad, which takes you into Central Otago and yes I do have pictures of everything, but I won't have them up for a little bit. And we shopped in Dunedin and went to cafes. Our other big expedition was going out to the Otago Penisula and seeing albatross chicks, sea lions, yellow eyed penguins and seals. I love the Penisula, so much beauty so close to the city.
The next day started our two days of travel, but first we made necklaces at a bead shop and what a fun thing to do, you're being creative and with a friend sharing ideas and you get something utterly unique at the end of it. Then we got on a cool, double decker coach and started heading towards Wellington. We were on the bus for about six hours as we went to Christchurch, where we had a nice thai dinner and slept for not quite long enough.
Since the next day, we woke up and got on the tranzcoastal train from Christchurch to Picton along the east coast of the South Island, at times we could look out the window and see seals. At Picton, we waited for the ferry, which was late and wrote postcards and then set off. Riding through the Marlborough Sounds is just amazing, I think its truly one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand. Then we got out into the Cook Strait and were seasick with many other people. Then we arrived in Wellington, tired, worn out and hungry. We settled in and went to sleep.
The next couple of days were all about exploring Wellington, one of my favortie cities in the world. We went to the botanic gardens, up Mount Victoria, out to the Karori Sancturary and saw a Super 12 rugby game. Wellington Hurricans versus the Waikato Chiefs, the Hurricanes won and Wellington was alive with rugby fans. Okay, there's a lot more I can say, but I'm feeling a little tired since today was a long day.
Life is really good, I've discovered again how wonderful Rowan is. Our fairly new relationship got thrown in the deep end when Barry evicted me and I moved in yet we did it. Being together just feels so natural and right. I felt so lucky when he would leave messages on my phone when Erin and I were travelling just to say hi and Wellington is the city he grew up in, so I kept thinking of him. And I finally have pictures of him smiling, which I will put up. This ended being a kind of long and rambly post, but that's alright. I'm working at a good job, looking for a new place, sharing my days with an amazing man in a beautiful part of the world and I'll show pictures of everything soon.
