Happiness Meme-Day Four

Today I tag wordsthatfail because she needs happiness and this is a small way to send it.

I just went for a wonderful walk into town and almost lost my hat on the way back because its sunny and windy. The shop I wanted to buy some celebratory GRE earrings was actually closed as they're doing some rearranging but I found a card for dynastessa and started reading The Secret Country by Pamela Dean. I'm already really enjoying it since its a wonderful take on kids find another world during the summer since they argue and feel real. Oh and I had a dream where Sam Winchester was working at Starbucks and we had a wonderful talk but then when I went out I couldn't find my car.

In graduate school news, I just asked the children's librarian at the Lewes Library to write me a recommendation and yesterday I started brainstorming for my statements. I'm going to try and just write a little bit every day and I think they'll go quickly. Now if I could just get my body to be nicer to me, I'd be happier, having my period start the day I took the GREs was just not fair.

Yes, it added an extra thing to go, grump, this sucks at, but I'm thinking about doing a trip north after my application is all sent in.

. . . uh possibly it is no surprise that Diana Wynne Jones fans are often also Pamela Dean fans.

Nope not at all. Though now I wish I knew where my copy of Tam Lin is since that's one of my favorite books ever, but its kind of proof of how weird I can be.

For years the only DWJ book I had read was Charmed Life</i but I reread it like mad and then you made me realize oh she's written more. Now I'm having that same sort of thing with Pamela Dean, its odd how even though some authors have written tons, you get an idea of them by just one book or maybe two.

Oh, I was the same way with Pamela Dean for years and years - Tam Lin has been one of my favorite books ever since I was pretty young, and I vaguely knew she'd written more, but I never got around to reading any of it until I saw the Secret Country books on sale in a bookstore one day a year or two ago and was like ". . . . oh hey!"

That's exactly what happened to me in Ann Arbor, I saw this book and went wait I know that author and like her. I first found Tam Lin because a really horrible English teacher had it on her shelf and then I just went and found my own copy since I liked it so much. I blame it partly for my interest in classics.

But you know the rule - classics majors are crazy! (This is ammunition I can levy against my mother, former Classics major, forever.)

Anyway, the discovery of more Pamela Dean stuff is nice and timely for you, since I believe she just sent her Secret Country trilogy sequel off to the publishers. :D There will be more soon after you finish it!

I won't argue you that at all. I like the kind of crazy Classics has given me or brought out in me. Ooh that's great to hear, I'll keep an eye out for them.

I already like it and I'm only into about the first couple of chapters and I figure a good library or used bookstore should have it.
