First Day of Work
Sep. 21st, 2004 05:17 pmThis morning I got dressed up and went to work at the New Zealand Accident Commission, I really cool place. Basically if you have any kind of accident in New Zealand if you send a claim form to these guys, they will pay for your care and help you get rehab. My job is to help process faxes that come in and sort them out and hand them out to all the processers. My other job is to work on invoices to make sure people have been getting what they're supposed to from equipment to home care to surgery. Everyone's really nice and relaxed and so I should be fine with nice but not really dressy clothes. I get a one hour lunch break and there is a morning and afternoon break too. So its laid back and I think I should be fine. Its a really open office with sort of open ended cubicles and people are just friendly. I'm one of three temps, one of them is from Canada and has been working there since June. So I think its going to be a really good place.
Now the trick is convincing the nice university guy that I just want company and I'm not going to pounce on him or anything. It was weird since last night I had hung out at the student center met up with him and some of his friends after calling Erin. Talked for a while and just had a good time. He went to check his email and other people left. Then I realized, night before my first day of work, wouldn't it be nice to eat with someone instead of being inside my own head too much. So I text message him and I apparently freaked him out since the two texts he sent me started with sorry. Oh well, I'll hang around and try to show him that I'm not a scary woman just who only knows a couple of people and is sick of the people in the hostel. Oh and there's a really nice little cafe on the first floor of the building where I had a really yummy sandwich.
So now I'm going to change out of my suit and find somewhere for a nice dinner and perhaps a pint of something.
