ceitfianna: (Newsies Seize the Day)

I'm currently in the public library in Ann Arbor since I left my laptop at the bandb, which does have wifi so I'll be on there later tonight. The flight went quickly and so far I've had lunch and walked enough that my feet hurt. I love the feel of Ann Arbor and the weather is doing its best to make me like it too since its beautiful and crisp with just some gusty wind to deal.

I wasn't on last night because I had to wake up really early this morning and knew if I went online I wouldn't sleep till rather later.

Tomorrow I have a plan to go to a class, talk to current student and then talk to admissions. I think I'll probably spend the rest of today popping into shops and just wandering before going back to my bed. Also I've been reading a lovely book The Well of Lost Books by Jasper Fforde, its actually the third book in the series but it was on sale and I'm really loving it. Has anyone else read this series and what are your thoughts on it? Since I find that its a very certain world and if you don't like fourth wall breaking or treating great classics with humor it might not work.

I'm going to check my email and I think I might wait to tag back plot and various other things for tonight since this is a slightly laggy and rather clackey computer. Mainly I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm here and already like Ann Arbor.

Also quick edit, those involved in the plot, if you have ideas and want to go tag into other threads for fighting the big bad, I'm all for it and we can discuss ideas later tonight.

As far as Jasper Fforde goes, I love the gimmicks and the book-related humor and dorkery, and things like audience participation Richard III fill me with glee! However, I have a hard time caring about the characters or plot - I sort of feel like he spent all his energy going "WOULDN'T THIS BE COOL" and filling the book up with Devices That He Thought Would Be Cool, and then forgot to actually develop anything besides the gimmicks. So as books, I find them entertaining enough but a bit disappointing, even though I like the ideas. It's sort of like Jasper Fforde tried to novelize one of those wacky e-mail chains full of brilliant ideas that you send back at forth at 3 AM. And in fact I sort of wish I was on an e-mail chain with Jasper Fforde, because then he would just be like "HOW COOL WOULD IT BE IF MISS HAVISHAM WAS A SECRET POLICE OFFICER," and then I could be like "THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!!!!" and not have to worry about actual characterization or plausibility or whatever.

Haha - yes, I can imagine! And it definitely makes a fun travel book, you're right.

JASPER FFORDE OWNS MY SOUL! Well, the little bit that isn't owned by pterry, anyway. I love love love the Thursday Next books because it's just my sort of humour and the parallels beteen that universe and ours delight me more than I can say.

NEW BOOK OUT IN JULY, CAN'T WAIT!

kk! If you don't mind, I'll leave this for tomorrow. I'll actually be online tomorrow I think.

(I was going to go out for drinking, but I might not do it after all.)

If you'll be around, then we can work on it a bit. If not - slowtime's our friend!
