Booklogging about The Elemental Masters

ceitfiannaI've now read the majority of Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters series and I've found them an interesting mixture. Overally I found the way the world and magic works very satisfying, she really paid attention to details such as how men and women acted and were treated in the early and late Victorian era and the time between the Wars.
Also there were very few characters that weren't incredibly fleshed out and believable. My only real complaint was that in a few of the books, the plot got tied up too quickly and easily or just wasn't terribly satisfying. Plot wise I think my favorites were Phoenix and Ashes, The Serpent's Shadow and The Gates of Sleep since she did a very good job of working the original fairy tale into the story in such a way that it wasn't glaring and really made sense.
I wish she had done it better with The Fire Rose, I get the feeling she had to sort of manage her way to a happy ending that doesn't match with the fairy tale. I do like how she really knows how to use an Epilogue properly since not many authors do. These are books I could see myself rereading some of them more than others and even trying to play a few of the characters in them, because they just feel real to me.
Tomorrow I have my interview so will be going to be early and waking up really early so that it can all get done in one day. I just meant a small amount of the money I have to buy a really lovely birthday present for my mom and Twilight, it was the right amount of money for free shipping and sometimes you just need distracting sugary books. At this point, I don't see myself approaching the right word count for NaNo and will just keep plugging at it for myself. Its only my first year and its getting me writing.
