ceitfianna: (Charles/Erik-remake the world)
Today seems to be a day of accomplishing various things which is always a nice feeling. First of all there are many plot ideas afoot for Milliways, which makes me grin. Charles is getting mixed up with goddesses and girls that are giving me ideas for a painful but important plot point to happen with Raven. My time off is getting closer and I'm trying to arrange some visits with friends before heading East and I need to also figure out visits when I'm in Delaware. Basically there will be many emails.

In terms of job stuff, I sent out four cover letters today, wrote a post on my librarian blog called The Worth of a Book about e-books, and also worked a shift. My body's still a little off after my travel this weekend, but I feel overall good about how things went. I have some moments of over thinking what happened but I'm trying to stomp on those thoughts. Some reflection is useful but I think a lot of the job honestly came down to, I wasn't the best fit for them.

I just did a fascinating survey put together by the people behind Archive of our Own that I recommend filling out if you have the time.

A grey circle with black border that contains three ticky boxes, each with a word next to it: OTW, survey, taker
I took the OTW Community Survey!
ceitfianna: (running towards a happy ending)
Today has been a good and quiet day. I wrote a post on my librarian blog over here. Also I've almost finished my personal statement for my private school jobs and feeling productive.

One thing I adore about April is getting lost in reading poetry as I try to pick what to post. My trip plans to see my family are moving forward and I'm realizing how much good a break will do me.

In terms of good reading, I've almost finished an amazing book that everyone interested in badass crossdressing women needs to read. Its called They Fought like Demons: Women Soldiers in the Civil War., I've been reading it every chance I can get and its fascinating.

The poetry for today is more Greek just this time Sappho who is one of my favorites, I'm going to post a few I adore. All of these were translated by Willis Barnstone.

World
I could not hope
to touch the sky
with my two arms.

Dream
O dream from the blackness,
come when I was sleeping.

Sweet is the god but still I am
in agony and far from my strength,

for I had hopes to share
something of the happy ones,

nor was I so foolish
as to scorn pleasant toys.

Now my I have
all these things.

In Time of Storm
Brightness. I ask for good fortune
to reach the harbor, the earth
for our black ships.

We are sailors under great gales,
hoping for dry reefs,
to sail in with our cargo.

The sky is flowing.
Awash in the storm we have many
duties. O dry land!

After the Night Festival
Peace is simply havoc
and my heart is worn out.
[The night] sits down,
but come, my friends.
Soon it will be dawn.

I have a class this semester on Professional Practice with one of my favorite professors, the one who got me to create a professional blog. I'm going to be writing in that blog every week with reflections on our class reading about learning and how to be an effective librarian. For those interested, that blog is Nurturing Stories on Wordpress and I just wrote up my newest entry.

Tomorrow my first full week starts with a class from 1 to 4 pm and then one from 5 to 8 pm. I think I'm going to be tired but happy with it all. Also when I had my walk today, it wasn't as cold as I expected. I want the weather to stay mild because I have a lot of late nights this semester.

Since that reading took a while, I'm also going to post a fun little meme from [livejournal.com profile] austen
