A Good Wind
Jul. 13th, 2011 12:46 amI think I'm going to continue with the nautical titled posts for another day as it feels like today the wind truly changed from yesterday. In the end I turned in my draft and already one group member has said it looks good and that makes me happy. I also ended up writing a long post over on my librarian blog and playing with the theme, it can be found at Nurturing Stories on Wordpress. The weather isn't quite as humid as before and walking home there was a breeze and it felt like there might rain later.
I spent most of today fretting about references as my cover letter and resume are all set to be sent to Kentucky but I need to update my references. I actually have a couple of people in mind and emailed them but I haven't heard back. So I can't send things off just yet but as soon as I get the okay they'll be off.
Tomorrow I'm going to have lunch with two of my favorite people in Ann Arbor, the couple of M and T as they're about to leave town soon. We were going to meet today but I overslept and so missed their email saying, let's meet at your place so it didn't happen.
Instead I sent emails and then before work finished reading After the Golden Age, which I picked up on
bodldops recommended in a Milliways' DE. Its a fantastic read, if you love superheroes, if you love seeing the rest of the world around the superheroes then go read this book. The main character is the daughter of the two main superheroes but she's without powers and her voice is amazing as the author, Carrie Vaughn captures all the complications and family dysfunction in a natural way.
Then at work, someone from where I did my internship stopped by and said that what I'd put in place is really making a difference and that I should see how everything's looking. That's had me beaming since it happened because I knew I was changing things and helping but this was just amazing. Now I'm home and considering what to do for food and possibly doing some writing.
As
ashen_key just saw X-Men, recs and things flew about and one of the fics that
walksbyherself pointed out about scars gave me an idea to write about Kait and Sameth. It started out being her taking care of him when he finally has time to be at Milliways after the end of canon, but then keeps branching out in my head. One reason I love taking him through canon is so there's the fascinating beginning for him as he and everyone else figures out what being a Wallmaker truly means. Also After the Golden Age does a great job of riffing on all the familiar superhero tropes and the telepath is beautifully written. I think I might need to go see X-Men again and poke at things as my writing brain just kicked in.
Please leave prompts here for me as I want to write more.

Date: 2011-07-13 04:55 pm (UTC)And added to my to read list. Have you read Soon I will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman? Very fun book!
As for prompts...
William/Artemus Gordon...was that five or six shots?
William/Thalia...stop this crazy thing.
And ever since I've played with The Dagda over in mixed_muses I've wondered what the meeting between He and Demeter would be like. I never bookmarked the first time I brought him in but if you think of the Gilded Age and the Titanic as a person, you'd have him. ETA: Oh and add a dash of the Ghost of Christmas Present.

Date: 2011-07-13 06:24 pm (UTC)I know it was full of quiet allusions to many comics but I didn't know them all. I'll keep a look out for that book.

Date: 2011-07-13 07:20 pm (UTC)Stop This Crazy Thing
Date: 2011-07-15 04:21 am (UTC)She'd been hurt in a hunt when the Bar showed up and was limping and grumbling as William was suddenly supporting her.
Thalia looked up and gave him a crooked smile, he returned it and she wondered how she ever could have mistaken him for Percy. Their eyes were so different, Percy's were full of the ocean and laughter, William's were like him, older and always hurting. He also always seemed to be leaner each time they met as if he was spending himself to do what needed to be done. As she'd been thinking, he'd gotten them to a table and carefully set her down before asking, "How bad is it?"
"Not too bad. I just need a bandage and some ambrosia."
"You rely too much on that stuff."
"It works for demigods."
"Fine, no movin'."
"I promise, no moving," She laughed at the serious look on his face as he went off and soon returned with her ambrosia and bandaged her leg then sat in the nearby chair.
When he sat down, he seemed rather far away after the touch of his hands on her leg.
She shook her head to clear those thoughts and looked up to meet his gaze, "Head hurtin'?"
"No," She shifted with a wince and a curse to Hades and leaned forward to kiss him.
He tensed and didn't reach for her though he answered the kiss but broke it without moving, "Thalia?"
"I just want to kiss you and not be careful for a little while."
He carefully put his arms on her as she could see him thinking about what she just said, "Not here though."
"No, the stables."
Again he nodded and they stood up and walked to the little room in the stable.
Her oath was always in her head and she promised Artemis that she just wanted to be free in his kisses for a little while. Before he could speak, she kissed him and didn't speak, didn't think, just were, neither of them were good at letting go but these kisses were a sort of freedom.
