Another day older
Jun. 9th, 2019 04:23 pmYesterday was my birthday and it was a really wonderful one. The weather was lovely and I did a lot of walking around Cambridge before meeting up with a friend for milkshakes before heading home. I ended up doing more walking than I expected because Cambridge is weird. A cool thing was that I happened to find a dance festival that was going on and in the course of about a block saw a modern dance performance and Scottish country dance and later flamenco.
A school I've been talking to over the phone and with one video interview wants me to come out for a in-person interview. The interview will be in a part of the country I don't know very well so I'm looking forward to that and a little nervous. I'm also nearing the end of my time at my college job and I'm ready to done. Last week of June I'll be training my replacement which I think will go very quickly. Then I'm going to have a little time off before getting deeply back into job searching.
I'm in the midst of reading two really good books that makes me happy as I finished Little, Big which was disappointing. For a book that has so much magic in it, there really wasn't a sense of wonder. I'm reading Seanan McGuire's newest book Middlegame which is fascinating and intense. She's so good at capturing relationships and how expectations can mess with children and adults. I'm also into an interesting book about trying to figure out what the life of French peasants might have been like before the French Revolution called The Great Cat Massacre by Robert Darnton. It makes my historian side happy since its all about thinking about primary sources and how the past is another country.
