ceitfianna: (Titanic-silent hurt)
The Duchess is a beautiful and highly restrained movie in terms of emotion. I'm not sure if I enjoyed it exactly but I found it interesting to watch and now I want to go read about the Duchess of Devonshire so in a way it worked.

Ralph Fiennes and Kiera Knightley were a surprisingly good match in terms of temper and also being polite and proper. I was also reminded how interesting the politics of that era were yet in some ways how they really didn't touch a certain class of people.

I'd say that if you enjoy beautiful period drama, find the politics of that era interesting, its worth a look. Though I'm not sure I'd watch it again while I know I'd watch Appaloosa again, which while also restrained in a different way has a bit more fire to it.
