First of Many Updates
Jan. 6th, 2005 05:09 pmWell, I'm back from a wonderful holiday exploring the South Island with my parents. We walked, got on a boat and saw whales, went horseback riding in the High Country, spent Christmas at a lodge in the mountains and New Years by a river. Then we went sea kayaking and hiking around Abel Tasman and also rode a train across the Southern Alps. A wonderful time and this is just the short version, the longer version will appear will many pictures probably over a couple of days.
At the moment, my parents are exploring the North Island and I'm recovering, since I've acquired a tan and some odd bruises and a new skirt and two new shirts. I also had the nice luck that the day after I got back, I called up my employment agency and was able to start at my new job. Its nothing special and hopefully won't last too long, but its money. I'm working for the Ministry of Health and filing forms so that carers can get a rest. So it sounds interesting, but actually its just data entry, the kind of stuff that I can do in my sleep. But its a chance to see another part of the NZ Health System, which seems to be the aim of all my jobs here, very odd. The people are nice and the office isn't that far from my flat, just a fifteen to twenty minute walk, so I can sleep in a bit and I'm only supposed to be there a month to six weeks. That's all for now, I'm going to do detailed journals of where we went on the trip with accompanying pictures, because NZ is just so beautiful you really have to see it to believe it. Now if I could get my new skirt to stop having static problems with my skirt all would be well.
Though one nice thing I noticed, at some point I was ready to stop travelling and coming back to Dunedin just felt really right and nice. It would have been helped a bit if a fire alarm needing a new battery hadn't been beeping, but that's alright. Just a good feeling that this city has become a home for me. Now I just need to get Rowan back from Wellington and I'll be happy.
