Today all public bars and restaurants in New Zealand become smoke free, which is pretty amazing. So far only a couple of countries have done this so New Zealand joins a small list, but an important one.

Today was also my last day at the Cancer Society, the new receptionist has shadowed me for a week, which was slightly strange. Since she's older then me and actually worked at the Cancer Society before, so there were times without meaning too, she made me feel rather young. She was nice throughout it all, but things were weird, because it was a very quiet week with little to do except sit around and have her read and me surf the internet. Though we did have some good conversations and I think she'll have no problem next week, but the week just felt very long. I was pleasantly surprised today when I had an afternoon tea thrown for me and received a Christmas bottle of wine, some lovely cards and a gift voucher for twenty dollars at a bookstore. So I feel like I did a good job there and helped make people's experience with the Cancer Society positive since mine was the first voice they heard when they called the office.

I'm not sure where I'm going to next or when I'll find out. Select, my employment agency had been good at finding me things and honestly it wouldn't be that bad if they didn't find me something until the week after next. Since my parents arrive on Wednesday and it'd be wonderful if I didn't have to work while they were here. I'd be okay with working the next week, because they're doing some travelling on their own. Though I don't have too much control over any of this and plan on just enjoying the weekend, sending out lots of Christmas cards to everyone I can think. So if you think I've forgotten you, I haven't and you'll be getting a Christmas card. :-)

Now, I'm going to have a restful night, sleep in tommorow then finish my shopping, enjoy spending my gift and just be. Today I feel really happy and like I've done the right thing by coming to New Zealand. I've learned that I can come into a job for a short period of time and become a part of the place and how much I enjoy jobs where I feel I'm helping people. Which is good to learn and one reason, I'm here is to discover the kind of job I want to spend my time doing. I've learned that I can be happy hanging out on my own though it helps to have flatmates to talk to. This week went slow, but oh well, parents will be soon and then time will fly. And by the time, they leave, Rowan will be back, so life is good. Now to put together my list of who needs cards and presents and think of where I'm going to take myself to dinner tonight.
