At Loose Ends
I have things that I should be doing and want to be doing but none of them are quite happening. I've noticed that if I'm waiting on something then it makes it trickier to plan.
Today I waited on landlord maintenance that didn't happen and so it threw my day off. Tomorrow there will be job moving and I really want to finish at least one fic this week, along with sending job stuff out into the world.
So in the name of distraction and in the hope that maybe some quick fics will help me finish the current one that feels so close to done I can taste it, have a meme.

When they met, neither could manage many words and as she curled up in his arms, she thought We need to sleep.
He didn't immediately answer as sleeping would mean moving for both of them to feel safe, Upstairs?
Her answer was a nod and leaning on each other they moved up the stairs so it was hard to tell who was leaning on whom.
The room was simple and welcoming, nothing to signal either world just a place to rest. Neither of them wanted to be far so they both toed off their shoes before laying on the bed.
As he closed his eyes, he thought at her, I'm going to close off or else I dream everyone's dreams.
She curled against him and kissed him gently on the lips as she said, "Open to me when you wake up."
"Always."

Can't stand to stand
One of the gods was looking out for her as she wasn't working on any major projects just some song lyrics and nothing was broken.
She stared down at him in the midst of the upended table with her fries on his suit and wearing a hat with wings, "Dude! What's wrong with you?"
"Am I dead? I don't think I can manage to be dead yet, maybe tomorrow,"
He said as he stood up or tried to stand up but tripped on a chair. "No, you're not dead yet. Should you be?"
"Ask me tomorrow."
"No, I'm asking you now," There was ketchup on her lyrics and he kept falling down, so she sighed and stood up a chair.
He looked at it for a while before sitting down in it and checking his hat, "Right, nothing broken. I can do this once I clean up."
Claudia sighs as it looks like she's not getting anything rational out of him, "Once you've lived through whatever you need to live through, you're explaining."
He stood up, blinked at her once again and nodded before going to the men's room.

I imagine this in his very early days at the post office as he does spend most of his books running and trying not to die today.

Just for one day
His arms hurt from firing and switching between his gun and rifle and he'd lost track of where they were fighting. It was a city, he'd heard mention of places that he knew were in New York City, but he couldn't keep figure out how to track it. Cities should be simpler than desert but things would rear out of the water and from trees and nothing looked as he imagined it should.
He kept searching for Thalia and trying to stay close to her but he'd never been in a battle like this before. Before he'd left, Apollo had given him something to see and he'd gotten bullets made of the proper metal but he felt like he'd fallen into The Odyssey.
Something whizzed by his ear and the ground was moving and a thing with claws reached for him, he hit it with his rifle butt and felt a claw rip down his leg.
Then there was an arrow and it disappeared into nothing as Thalia ran down beside him and yelled, "You shouldn't be here. I need to find Percy."
He managed to stand up and found a bandanna to tie around his leg, "You find Percy, I won't be far behind."
"William," She was preparing to yell at him when he turned his rifle and fired it over her shoulder and there was a puff.
"You get goin'. I'll find you," It wasn't what she wanted to hear but Thalia gave him a long look and then started to run as he found a good piece of high ground to fire from.

Tremble for yourself
Now he just had to stand somehow and find out what had happened to Katya. He'd seen her in tiger form attacking the men who weren't men and he'd done as she said and got out when he could.
Now he had to go back in because it might be her fight but it was her world. It took a few tries but he managed to stand and his arm was stiff as he loaded his gun. Things were quiet as he peered back around the mainly smashed door and saw Katya and things, bodies but not human.
He couldn't see her and then she was there, ready and sighed at him, "There is a door, we're going through it. Then you are not talking until you've been washed, fed and healed. After that I will consider questions."
William was sure he should probably say something but he trusted her.

Charles could feel Jess' happiness before he even found her dancing to the jukebox. Once she spotted him, she didn't ask just pulled him to dance with her and laughed, "You need to laugh more."
"I do?"
"Yes, you've got that look in your eyes of thinking too much. And you think more than anyone I've ever met," She first poked his forehead and then kissed him.
"It's a risk of my mutation," He said with a sigh then gave her a longer kiss.
"Mm, not that kind of song, this is a bouncy song, next one is for kissing."
"That's not fair."
"That's how it goes."
The song was terribly bouncy and he couldn't quite get the words but he danced then when the song was quieter, he held her and kissed her.

All I've got
The bronze wings barely stirred as Kait ran her fingers over them, they didn't seem real. All that had happened here felt realer but the world had an edge to it and blurriness that she couldn't seem to make sense of.
Her senses told her the choices she'd made and what she had to do, he'd told her she shouldn't, couldn't but she had to. This was her world and her magic, for all its newness and she could get them back, so she would.
His pain had been hard but he didn't understand, she had to do this, maybe someday she'll give him the wings back.
